June 30 is the day of summer purification rites. People in Kyoto pass through the “cogon grass ring” and eat sweets called “Minazuki” to pay for evil and cultivate spirit.

The photo is the cogon grass ring of HeianJingu shrine, and the delicious Minazuki of Gionmanju. They are popular spots within a few minutes’ walk from the Kanade Okazaki.
